SLJ: 3rd Comment

Today I read Loaloa's Haiku which was about Summer, if you would like to see it yourself here is the link. Her writing really made me think about Summer and the little things it brings along.

SLJ: Taste Of Summer!

Today's blog is about Summer and what foods we think of when we ponder about Summer. My choices are on an image I have created in google draw. I thought of many things about Summer but my main ideas were these ones ( in the image ) because many people have had it once in summer before and because it is very common for me to have in summer.

SLJ: UV Indicator

Today I have made my own UV indicator! It should be put somewhere where your family can see it so you all know when it's good to go outside and when it's not. This is very helpful to know when it is bad to go outside because if you stay outside for to long you could get sunburn or worse get Skin cancer.

SLJ: A Super Column!!!

Today I have made Columns which  hold about 3-4 things max, it's not the best but it is stronger than I thought because how it's made out of mere paper! but in the end it's very helpful and if it was a larger one maybe it could hold heavy structures that fall during an Earthquake.

SLJ: Replying

Today's Task I have to reply to a comment on one of my blog post, I had decided to reply to a comment on my Tanerore blog post because it had an encouraging and positive comment on it by the SLJ team and her name was Renee, she had said great and positive things like every comment should.

SLJ: Which One Doesn't Belong?

Today I have finished doing a task from last week I had forgotten to do so I thought I should do it today. I learnt what was different from other things and what doesn't belong with the others and if you want to see what I did here it is, ( if it doesn't work it might be because you need permission so just send a request and I'll accept them. )

SLJ: Commenting

I have just finished reading and commenting on Finau's blog it was so amazing to see her design so if you want to see it heres her blog and if you could comment on it but remember to Use our commenting criteria.

SLJ: Pigpen Cipher

Today my task was to decrypt what beach had the treasure and I found out it was Piha Beach but not only that we had to encrypt our favourite beach using Pigpen Cipher, here is my code so lets see if you can solve mine. I have given you a little help by showing how to work it out, GOOD LUCK!

SLJ: Hana Koko

For our task we had to make our own Hana Koko but we had to make our own design of Santa and my Santa is called PANTA!!!! Meaning Poly Santa which also means Polynesian Santa.

SLJ: Superpower no.2

Today I have made a xylophone out of paper and tape. It was simple all I did was fold the paper to make a cylinder type of shape and make it shorter each time, it doesn't work that well than a wooden one would when you bow through it but it does work if you hit it in the middle of it while it's flat down.

SLJ: rise up

Today I have made a chorus out of the song called Silhouette made by KANA-BOON which is also well known in an anime called Naruto and that is what my chorus is based on. In the Naruto world their are Hokages which are basically the strongest people in their village so they become the protectors of their village and will do anything to protect the village and the people in it, so my chorus talks about how I strive to be the Hokage and I will not stop till I become one. The word Hokage is not just a title bestowed to the strongest but is a person that will go to extreme lengths to protect whom they love, to me that's what I call a leader.

SLJ: Haiku

Today I have finished writing a type of poem call Haiku, when I first saw it's name I straight away thought of the anime also call Haikyuu but it's about volleyball. If you watch anime you probably have watched it or heard about it from a friend but enough about Haikyuu lets talk about my Haiku writing. It is about Summer and how it starts and whats the signs of Summer starting ( it's already done BTW just wrote about it. )

SLJ: Optical Illusions

Hi everyone! I have drawn an optical illusion called "Old Lady Young Lady" for my task today. It was really easy and I bet you could even do it within 5-10 minutes or less, if you can see the illusion then tell me in the comments but if you can't see it what your looking for is an old woman and a young woman you might see the young lady quickly but the old woman is kind of hard to find, I know it was difficult at the start for me too.

SLJ: What Are You Doing Today?

Today I did some puzzle piecing in Maori I enjoyed doing this because I was in the Kapa Haka group this year so we had to learn how to sing the songs and do the Haka so it was quite refreshing to go back in time and learn some more Maori words I wasn't taught. I also did it with my sister Alilia because she also entered in the Summer Learning Journey so if you could just check out my sisters post and see hows she is doing, That it from me enjoy the video we did together but if you want you can read it yourself.

SLJ: Insect Art

Yesterday My sister Alilia and I had gotten some fallen leaves, twigs, and flower. It was really easy to do because all we needed was items that we usually see all the time in our backyard and garden, my favourite part of doing this was making the butterfly look like its drinking nectar from the flower next to it. Now time for the name, the butterflies is....Todoroki!!! Because he's my favourite characters in Boku No Hero Academia ( My Hero Academia. )

Here is also part of what we had to do today from my last post, what we had to do was to read the story then write who they were, what part they did, and what was the outcome for them so basically a summary and if you want to read it I put it on the first slide so you just need to pause it and read, but if you see anything that I missed then I would appreciate it if you could tell me what I miss in the comment section please and thank you!

SLJ: My Teeth

Welcome everyone today I had been doing some writing, what I had to do was make up my own sentences by looking at the pictures so like a comic book.

Zoo Trip

On Monday 23rd of November room 7 and 1 went to the zoo by bus to learn about pest control but didn't learn that much about pest but learnt more about the animals that we need to protect.

we learnt about Ostriches and that they are extreme birds that run the fastest, lay the largest eggs and even have the largest eyes.

After seeing the Ostriches we went to the Meerkats and I learnt that pregnancy for them is quick and simple which will only go for about 11 weeks and they can have about 2-4 pups.

While going to the Spider Monkeys we stayed back to see the seals and I learnt that Seals have a layer of fat under skin called blubber, which keeps them warm in cold water.

We were near the end and we had made it to the Spider Monkeys and they were feeding them, the Spider Monkeys had a diet made up with corn and beetroots. They have no thumbs and uses there tail for climbing and pinking up things.

It was a good time at the zoo and learnt lots if you go i recommend you go to the Meerkats because they are so cute.

Story by Mary-Jane Stewart: Roland Fish Rises Up

Kapa Haka Practice

Every week on Tuesday room 7 and 1 has been doing Kapa Haka practice for the past 2 terms and have learnt a lot from our kaiako named Wairahi.

She gave us time to learn a new haka for the boys and a waiata for the girls and another 2 song to sing together which sounds absolutely amazing to be honest.

On Saturday we will be going to the Ruapotaka marae to preform on stage with 16 other schools that will also be preforming so I'm kind of nervous but I am also so excited for it.

Tech

At Tech group 3 were learning about our planets most important but not notice as much as it should be, the Earthworm.

We learnt that Earthworms are so important and valuable because if we didn't have Earthworms the world that we live in would be so dry and harder for our plants to stay alive which means we can't make fresh fruits and veggies, I know some of you would like that but you wouldn't be able to eat the strawberry ice creams that we love or eat your favourite chocolate and much more foods that we love and couldn't live without and if you can't live without this then it should be the same with worms so if you see a worm dying make sure to help it out because with your good deed we will have more of a great life and more fresh foods.

Technology

Today room 7 and 1 went to Tamaki College for tech, we got into our groups and went to our classes.

In science we talked about plastic again and if it was bad or not, we were given a sheet that had lines of words that were talking about plastic and if they were bad or good. Some had good quotes and them and some had bad quotes but the majority of it was spoken and the answer was that plastic is bad and will kill of planet if don't stop using it.

Back at Science

Today room 7, room 1, and St Pius X students went to Tamaki college for tech, group 3 went to science with Mrs. Sharma and we learnt about plastic and by now everyone know what plastic is but do you know what it does to our sea creatures? and that is what we learnt today.

did you know a 19 day old bird had eating a record making amount of plastic because of the rubbish and single-use plastic bags that we throw away, Seven billion tons of rubbish and plastic is thrown away and as more people enter this world the amount of rubbish we have now will triple rapidly unless we start to reduce the plastic that we use and leave behind for the wind to take.

We were ask if plastic was good for us and by the look of the information that we have been given of course we would say no, but if plastic is bad what do we replace it with? the answer is reusable bags! It well decrease the lost of marine life and save the planet little by little.

It was time to go so we brought in our books and left with the knowledge we were given and went back to our schools.

Tech: Science

Today at tech group 3 went to science and our teacher was Mrs. Sharma. we learnt about science and scientist, in science we talked about the science branches and here are some of them biology, physics, and chemistry.

We learnt that biologist study humans, animals, plants, and the environments in which they live. A physicist is always thinking about the properties of the natural world like atom formations or gravity and develops scientific theories and models that help them understand and explain it.

The last one from the science branches was chemistry, it is the study of matter, basically anything that has mass and takes up space, and the changes that matter can go through when it is in a different environments and conditions.

Winter Is Near!!!

Now that we have moved to level 2 New Zealand citizens are feeling the last draught of Autumn come though, Now that Autumn is gone and is waiting for another year to come winter is feels way bigger than a draught so people will be getting sick more often, so what you need to do is keep warm and when you feel a cough coming up to stay home because it could be a cold or sometimes could be more than this so if you do feel like this stay home and keep your family and you warm.

Things to do: One thing you could do is learn/study more so that you don't lose your learning from just coming back to school. You could eat or drink things that are warm like hot chocolate, or tea (if your like me) and if you want you could have hot tasty soup. One last thing you could do is get lots and lots of cosy blankets so you don't get cold at night.

A little fact:June 1st marks the official start of winter. Many people believe that the Earth is farthest from the sun in the winter. Although this makes sense, it’s not true. In the Northern Hemisphere, winter happens when Earth is closest to the sun- how weird!

this everything you should do and a little fact to know before you go, so keep safe and keep warm all the time.
Tunnels on Blue Ridge Parkway in NC are winter danger zones ...

Back At School

Today was the first day back to school and at the start I thought that it would be exciting and ready to learn again but actually it was boring because I thought that we would do the things we did before this lockdown but it seems that everything has changed but it's good to know that our community is doing everything to keep safe from this virus.

We had lunch and it was good just we had to play separately and we couldn't go play with our friends so if I could change one thing it would be nothing because we have been doing good lately so I wouldn't want to change the way we live.

At the end we all went back home but it was kind of different because the students that had siblings would go first now and then the other students went last but other than that going back to school was good and hope it will get better everyday.

Road Safety

We might be in lockdown but once this pandemic has been solved we will be allowed to go out again but still with the same conditions and hope everyone will stick to it but on thing we must remember is the rules on the road so here are some rules on the rad the you need to keep.

1. One thing you should know and remember is to keep to the speed limit and always stop at STOP signs.

2.Another one is to always slow down to observe recommended speeds around bends and to keep on your left-hand side

3. A simple one that everyone should know is to always put on their seat belt and to know that it is on is to wait till you a click then you are already to go.

4. Do not Drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs it is a crime in New Zealand and strictly enforced by police.

5. Remember to give way to cyclists using the bus lanes, and vehicles using bus lanes.

these are all the things you need to remember while on the road I hope everyone keeps safe and looks both ways on the crossing.

Moving to Level 3

As some of you know we have now moved into level 3 of this pandemic and hope that you are all safe, remember that we must continue to stay in our household bubbles whenever we are not at work, school, buying the groceries or exercising.

Fast food restaurants like McDonald's and KFC have opened for alert level 3 but the only way to get a Big Mac or some Wicked Wings is from drive thru the only ones allowed in are the staff and the people that bring the fresh new ingredients.

Earth Day

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22 to establish support for environmental protection. it was First celebrated in 1970 and has continued on till this day and now over one billion people in 192 countries celebrate this.
Earth Day founder Gaylord Nelson came up with the idea for a national day to focus on the environment.

Lastly to celebrate this you could do some garden in your backyard and try planting some flowers or if you want you could plant things that can be used in you life like potatoes, lettuce, blueberries, and more, so when doing this you can make the world a little more brighter for the next generation.

ANZAC Day

On the 25th of April will be the beginning of another year of remembering the once that we lost during the war and the ones that protected our country and our familes and as everyone across the globe know that the Corona virus is spreading rapidly so most countries including New Zealand has made everyone stay inside their homes, so here are some ideas to remember those that have died for us.

1. You could make a poppy out of anything and try putting ti somewhere that people are able to see like on your windows or stick it on a wall.

2. If you wanted you could also get your the people in your bubble to come to the lounge and if you have a device you could play the last post which is normally play on ANZAC Day it symbolises the duty of the dead is over and they can rest in peace.

3. Lastly you if you have a device you could Skype, Face time, or even call your families just have a talk and see how they are and if they're keeping safe.

How To Cure Boredom In Quarantine

It is coming near to the end of New Zealand 4 week lock down but could go on so here are some advice to cure your boredom during this time.

1. You could do a family activity like a board game, do some dancing to keep you active and healthy, and if you want you can grab a book and start reading to your siblings or you could read it to your parents.

2. If you wanted you could go for a walk near your street but not to far, you could also play a game of rugby or scorer in your own backyard or if you don't have a ball you could play tag or ball rush.

3. After doing these things you could also do somethings that you need to do or were to lazy to do like clean your room or do some cleaning around the house and if your feeling nice you could also help your mum or dad with preparing dinner.

4. Lastly you could learn something new like a new language or how to cook great food with the things that are common to have in the house.

Is Boredom Such A Problem? - The Startup - MediumWell these are all my advice to cure your boredom in quarantine hope you are all keeping safe wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and if you get sick remember to isolate yourself from others.

Aircrafts Are Finding It Hard To Park

With Coronavirus making Air travel stop airlines around the world have been forced to ground most of their aircraft and in some cases their entire convoy.

American air service has had to park 450 of its aircraft, Delta airlines have grounded 600 and Lufthansa Airlines around 700 aircraft, we do not know at this stage where Air New Zealand will park some of its grounded fleet. However New Zealand has the options of a handful of air force bases around the country where they can park some of their aircraft's.
airports around New Zealand will be willing to help Air New Zealand during this time.

What Is The Corona virus?

The Corona virus is a flue-like virus that has cross the world rapidly, it has made a huge impacted on the world but has also made an unexpected side effect:a positive environmental impact.

Since the beginning of the outbreak around New Year’s Eve last year we had to change the way we live and shut down all factories and school so the air has had a huge decrease in it's pollution. Just because it has had a great impacted on the Earth we still have to keep safe so remember to wash your hands both before and after eating and playing.

Hamlin Hill

On the 26th of February room 7 and 1 went to Hamlin Hill but first we had a lesson with Frazier at school so we could learn more about what we have to do and what we shouldn't do like we have to stay on track and we can't go in front of Frazier and we also had to look after the binoculars that were given to us. We learnt about animals that were killing our native animals and killing our trees and plants, the type of pests that were killing native animals and killing our trees are possums, ferret, weasel, Mustela, which are in the Mustelidae family.

when we got there we had to clean our shoes because if we didn't we could kill our native trees and plants so what we did was spray our shoes then brush of any germs then we started our walk to the top.

Once we got to the top we had our lunch while Frazier told us stories about why they kill the pest and how we can take more care about our beautiful planet.

The day was fun but it had to end sometime so then we went back to the bus and we all went back to school with more knowledge.

Water Fun Day

On 5th of March Ruapotaka had a Water fun day (it's basically a day of water and fun). We all had to wear something that was in our house colour, my one  house is yellow but in Maori it is Kowhai. I used wore a lava lava which is worn by Polynesians and other Oceanic peoples, I also wore a yellow buttoned up shirt too.

Their There was a water slide that Mrs. Golder was hosting and Mr. Reid was hosting a game that was played by trying to get water balloons in the bucket, . Their There was a bucket that would give you 1 point and ,one that gives you 5 and the last one is gives10 points, which was kind of hard but you got to focus and then you can get it.

Image result for yellow blue green redLastly we all came together and the teachers totalled up all the scores and the winners were....... Kowhai (YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!) at the end of the day we basically all won because we all got a bottle from Mrs. Golder's husband, so if your you're reading this Mrs. Golder can you tell your husband, thank you!!!
