                              1.They are one of the pumpkin,melon,
                                     and cucumber family.

                        2.Luffa vines can grow to nine metres long.

                               3.The fruit can weigh up to 1.5 
                                               kilos each.
                                 
                                  4.luffa's were used in ancient Egypt 
                               and have been cultivated for pillows,saddles,
                           and helmets and for making slippers and 
                                                      mats.

                5.finally before the second world war,luffa's were                                      used as filters in ship's boilers.
